Before braving Six Flags’ rides and rollercoasters, teens, young adults, and their families will experience a morning of hands-on sessions learning how to manage kidney disease while navigating adolescence. Parents will spend the morning talking with experts and participating in a series of kidney-health discussions. Teens and young adults (ages 13 – 21) will rotate through six interactive learning experiences with healthcare professionals allowing them to understand their diagnosis in an understanding, supportive environment. The sessions will cover topics such as peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, transplantation, snacking right and taking meds, mind-body health and relaxation, and useful technology.
Following lunch, attendees can use the remainder of the day enjoying the thrills and delights of Six Flags Great America with their complimentary passes. Attendees are free to explore the park as a family, with the NKFI team or with the new friends made at the event!
The Teens and Young Adults Living with Kidney Disease and Transplantation program is offered completely FREE of charge, and is made possible by the generous support of dedicated sponsors. Although the program is organized by the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, Wisconsin families are encouraged to attend. Scholarships are available to help with travel costs.

Join us as community members, families, friends, advocates of organ donation, and healthcare professionals come together on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Capital City 5K Run/Walk for Organ, Tissue & Eye Donation.
The 5K, an USATF certified event, is managed by Next Level Sports and takes place on a beautiful summer evening in Madison. The run/walk begins at twilight (6:30 pm) on Capitol Square, winds along the bike path next to Lake Monona, and ends at Goodman Park with a private pool party.
This celebration of life has become a Madison tradition honoring champions of organ, eye and tissue donation. More than 1,900 families in Wisconsin are hoping that their loved one will get a life-saving transplant. All proceeds go to support the programs and services of the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin.

The KEEP HEALTHY program is the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin’s most direct way of fighting kidney disease. The program’s main focus is helping to detect early signs of possible kidney problems, by organizing health screenings. A health screening includes several simple tests – a blood pressure check, a urine test, and a body mass index measurement. Results are shared by a physician or other healthcare professional along with discussion of a risk survey.
Anyone 21 years of age or older is welcome to participate.
The Blood Sugar Test, included in the screening, requires eating no food for 8 hours before the screening; however, take any medication as prescribed.
Registration is required – phone (414) 897-8669
