Alice Ching, MD

Alice Ching, MD

Alice Ching is a Nephrologist at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She spends most of her clinical time at the VA hospital in Milwaukee (the Zablocki VA).

Alice is returning to Spotlight on Life as the reigning Champion! She won the Dancing with the Stars competition in 2018 and is back to delight the audience with her amazing dancing abilities!

"I'm dancing to help raise money for the NKFW and to bring more awareness to being an organ donor", says Alice. "I'm also proud of all my institutions and the work that they do for people with kidney disease (MCW, FMLH, and the VA)."

Dancing is in her blood! In her childhood she was very comfortable in her ballet tutu and she and her husband enjoy dancing together. Before they married, they took ballroom dancing lessons and continued taking lessons since then. It's the first hobby that they shared as a married couple.

Alice is dancing to "Wait for It" from Hamilton. She has been listening to the soundtrack for over a year and had the opportunity to see it live in Chicago this year.

In her free time Alice loves sewing, crafting, cooking/baking and trying to grow plants (although this is a work in progress). She is proud to say she made a Hamilton outfit for her friend's daughter, who wanted to be Hamilton for Halloween.

Alice went to Northwestern University (Go 'Cats!) for undergrad, Northwestern for medical school and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) for residency and fellowship.

Alice and her husband have a dog, and enjoy spending time together. She grew up in Libertyville, IL, so has always been a Midwest girl.

Alice's Partner Zachary Pohl

headshot of Zachaary Pohl Originally from Florida, Zachary attended New Mexico State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Ballroom dance instruction. Shortly thereafter, Zachary relocated to his current residence in Wisconsin, to teach at the renowned Pewaukee Fred Astaire Dance Studio. While teaching, he simultaneously continues to develop his own professional competitive dance career; currently placed as a finalist in both smooth and cabaret. Zachary continues to show a deep passion for all forms of dancing, at both professional and amateur levels. His many victories in competition are rewarding to say the least, but Zachary maintains that the most satisfying aspect of his career comes from watching his students grow into fine dancers of their own and to see how dancing has changed their lives.
